Adavita Vedanta

What I understand as of now.

What I understand so far is that it starts with a very simple question: am I these things, or am I aware of these things?

I notice a thought. So the thought is something I experience. I notice sadness, so sadness is something I experience. I notice my body, my memories, my desires, even the feeling of 'I', and all of these are things I can observe.

So then the question becomes: if I can observe all these things, what exactly is the thing that is observing them? I don't know yet. That's what I want to understand.

I don't want to jump straight into big words or make it spiritual for the sake of it. I want to study it properly. I'll start with the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, and then read Shankara. For now, I just want to understand this one question: who is the one experiencing all of this?
